Broadly, the main consequences of this kind of disease are irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian cysts and difficulty in getting pregnant. Another consequence is a tendency to easily gain weight (many women suffer from overweight and obesity) and are at high risk in suffering from diabetes and heart disease. The symptoms appear during the puberty and there are different treatments to help those women affected by this syndrome which are adapted by our specialists to each woman according to their specific symptoms. How does diet influence women affected by polycystic ovary syndrome?

A study argues that food especially breakfast affects and improves female fertility. The research was conducted by Biochemistry, Food Science and Nutrition Institute of Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  And it underlines that a good and balanced breakfast increases female fertility, especially in those women which suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The study revealed that glucose level decreased in those women who consumed more calories during breakfast, they showed a higher resistance to insulin and there was 50% decrease of testosterone level.

Spanish society for polycystic ovary syndrome recommends important tips too.  They underline that PCOS is related to high levels of insulin in blood so women affected by this disease must always take care of their diet. Moreover, they indicate that there are no standard diets for women with polycystic ovary syndrome but it changes depending on each case needs even if the most damaging foods are: sugar, flour, potatoes, processed foods, coffee, some fruits and vegetables.
