WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION BY DONOR? (AID)

Artificial insemination by donor (AID) is an assisted reproduction technique in which the sperm from an anonymous and safe donor is used, it is selected from a sperm bank and placed inside the uterus by the use of a special cannula. See information about sperm bank.

It is a simple and efficient treatment when a good quality sperm is injected and there are high chances of success. This assisted reproduction treatment is recommended when your partner’s sperm is not healthy and when you are a single mother or your partner is a woman.

WHEN ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION BY DONOR IS RECOMMENDED? (AID)

Artificial insemination is recommended in the following cases:

  • Couples in which the man has a serious and irreversible sperm alteration or when his testicles are unable to produce sperm.
  • Couples in which the man has some kind of hereditary disease that can be transferred to his children.

PHASES OF ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION BY DONOR (AID)

Practically the steps to follow for artificial insemination by donor are the same as artificial insemination; the main difference is that the sperm used is from an anonymous donor and  it can be conformed to your characteristics and those of your partner. The phases of this treatment are:

1. CONTROL AND OVARIAN STIMULATION

From the moment in which we provide you the necessary medication we can start our path together. Treatment starts with the administration of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). We will check the cycle’s progress by doing an ultrasound scan of the follicular ovarian development to verify if the number and size of the follicles are appropriate (just one follicle is necessary). In that moment another hormone is administered imitating the luteinizing hormone in order to release your eggs.
